Empowering Energy Communities to Build, Own, and Benefit from Clean Power
Problem
Despite ambitious EU targets—42.5% renewable energy by 2030 and net-zero by 2050—adoption lags behind at under 25%. Fossil fuel consumption hit record highs in 2024, while wind energy deployment declined. Renewable projects face long permitting timelines, lack of access to funding, and low community participation. Individuals and developers alike struggle to navigate complex approval processes, high capital costs, and NIMBY resistance.
Energy communities, though critical to reaching climate goals, account for less than 1% of energy production today
Solution
Orklys is a fintech platform that simplifies and accelerates the green transition. It enables individuals, communities, developers, and institutions to co-own renewable energy projects and earn income while making a tangible climate impact.
The platform delivers value across the entire project lifecycle:
• Energy Community Hub: Enables anyone—from citizens to corporations—to start, join, or fund clean energy projects.
• Smart Project Management: Simplifies feasibility studies, permits, and administration with AI-backed tools.
• Funding Matching: Connects projects with capital—early, flexibly, and at low cost.
• Daily Rewards: Investors see environmental and financial impact in real-time, including daily payouts and carbon reduction tracking.
Business model
Orklys earns revenue by facilitating and managing investment in renewable energy projects:
• Project Sponsorship: Orklys acts as lead or co-sponsor, earning fees for project development, financing, and community engagement.
• Share Issuance & Investment Management: Orklys issues energy shares (1 share = 1,000 kWh/year), taking a cut of capital raised and returns managed.
• Partner Network Fees: Electricity providers and developers pay acquisition and participation fees.
• Pooled Investment Funds: Institutional investors can invest in portfolios of Orklys-vetted projects, with Orklys earning management and performance fees.
Launched as a response to fragmented and slow-moving renewable energy development, Orklys turns complexity into simplicity—and potential into participation.
